Course Description

Viewing the online course video, Opioid Safety & Pain Management in the Dental Office, studying this coursebook and successfully completing the course test meets the New York State mandated coursework/training in pain management, palliative care, and addiction for all prescribers licensed in New York who treat humans and have a DEA registration number to prescribe controlled substances, as well as medical residents who prescribe controlled substances under a facility’s DEA registration number.

Due to the rise in Opioid addiction, the safe use of opioids and management of dental pain is receiving new scrutiny by regulatory and dental boards. This course reviews the state and federal laws governing the prescribing of opiods, explains how to diagnosis and manage pain, and how to assess patients for possible opioid addiction. This course is suitable for all members of the dental team.

About the Authors

Howard Pactovis, DMD lectures nationally on OSHA Compliance/Infection Control. He has provided infection control services and programs for over 1,000 dental offices. Dr. Pactovis has been involved in numerous OSHA inspections of dental offices, and has taken courses in voluntary compliance from OSHA. Dr. Pactovis has served as an expert witness in infection control litigation for State Boards of egistration in Dentistry and represented dental offices in appealing sanctions from OSHA.<

Ms. Wright is a continuing education editor and writer as well as a Temp PRN with agencies in the Washington State area. Ms. Wright earned her MS at the UNM and Pierce College of Washington State in 1997 and certification in Utilization of the 970 Diode Laser and Safety in Dentistry in February of 2015. Ms. Wright works to implement Dental Education seminars as a Hospital-Dental Liaison building collaborative, mutual efforts to promote patient wellness between medical practitioners and dentists while prioritizing care for untreated, medially compromised patients.
